He’s cocky, mouthy, and his parents are in jail. But maybe with the right role models and a little luck, he’ll make it after all!

Eric and Bill were used to being foster parents, but they weren’t expecting David. Just as the social worker described him, he was the most effeminate child they had ever seen. He wiggled his butt when he walked, and when he talked he accentuated every statement with a limp wrist flailing the air as if he were an animated teapot.

Excerpt:
David was the most effeminate child they had ever seen. He wiggled his butt when he walked, he stood as if he were a sugar bowl, with his hands on his waist when he wasn’t talking, and he lisped when he talked and accentuated every statement with a limp wrist flailing the air as if he were an animated teapot. There were visible bruise marks on his arms and neck, and he had a fading black eye that a week earlier probably matched his jet-black hair.

“David, this is Mr. Kester. He’s kind enough to let you stay with him for the time being. Eric, this is David Myers.” Eric extended his hand for a friendly handshake and got a return grip that was like feeling a plate of cold spaghetti – nothing firm or manly about it.

“What she means is till they figure out what the f**k to do with me.”

“We don’t use that word in this house.”

“We f**kin’ do now.”

“No, we don’t.” Rather than begin a battle of wills, Eric turned his attention to Mrs. Wolfe. “Will his folks be out on bail?”

“I doubt it. Bond is usually set at $50,000 each in distribution cases.”

“I see.”

“Yeah, I ain’t gonna be seeing them for a while,” David interjected.

“David, I see you brought your suitcase and a laptop. Let me show you to your room. You can unpack, store things in the dresser or closet as you choose, and then come back down and we’ll really get acquainted.”

“Yeah, like you’ll really want to get to know me. Big f**kin’ joke.”
