When David’s boyfriend, Jared, becomes a control freak, David’s growing resentment threatens their relationship on the college basketball team, and neither is willing to jeopardize the chance of winning the national title. Knowing that David cannot afford to lose his athletic scholarship, Jared warns that if he leaves him, he will tell the coach that his rising star is gay.
Across the state at a different university, David’s twin, Neil, is destined for greatness in the business world. Also gay, he meets a man named Jerry who changes his life, but finding their roommate murdered shakes their relationship to its core.
As the twins face their individual challenges, they meet some interesting characters, loves are lost and hearts are broken, but the challenge they must face together threatens to destroy the very foundation of their lives.
David stopped at the Union for a quick snack and headed back to the dorm to await his tutor. He changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top so he would be comfortable. There was no need for winter attire inside the dorm.
He opened the door as soon as he heard the first knock. Standing there was a guy about as tall as he was, with gorgeous blue eyes, shoulder-length whitish blond hair, and a big friendly grin. Outweighing David by probably forty pounds and with enough muscle to bench-press a ton, he introduced himself. “Hi, David Maga? I’m Danny Houseknecht. Coach Maguire assigned me as your tutor for your final exams. Shall we get started?”
David pulled over the chair from Jared’s desk.
“Nice pictures on the wall. Celtics fan, eh?”
“Yeah, do or die.”
“Well, they certainly died last year. They were fourth place in the Atlantic Division.”
“But I’m confident they’ll do better this year.”
“We’ll see. I have to admit you’re a pretty good ballplayer yourself. I’ve watched you play every game this year. You’ve got a lot of potential.”
“Thanks. Every game?”
“Yes, I’m at the scorer’s table keeping the official record of the game for Coach M. Glad you got over your jitters last night against ECU and scored. Now, where should we get started? Coach gave me your class schedule – art, geography, history, math, and English – all the basic introductory courses. Who are your teachers?”
David rattled off the course and the professor.
“Good. I’m pretty familiar with their usual finals. The way I like to run these tutoring sessions is – I ask you a question, you answer it to the best of your ability and jot in your notes what you said, and then I add what else you should include in your answer. Then just a fast review right before you take the exam should have everything fresh in your mind.”
David took a very long pause and then said, “This isn’t really working for me. I can’t concentrate.”
“Because I’m gay and you’re too hot a man. All that keeps intruding on my mind is what you would look like naked and what we would be doing in a bed. I mean, it’s Friday night, right before finals. I’m sure every guy on campus, except the basketball players, is doing his damnedest to get laid.”
“Point well taken. But you’ve got a job to do and so do I. Mine is to make sure you’re ready for your exams and I have to do everything in my power to make it so.” He rose from his chair and removed his sweater, then his shirt, his shoes, his socks, and his pants. He stood in front of David in only a tight pair of shorts that could have been designed by Andrew Christian. “Does this satisfy your erotic fantasy so we can get on with our tutoring?” David just sat there staring at the gorgeous Nordic god. “Obviously not yet.”
He removed his underwear and let his endowment flop free. David’s eyes fixed directly on it.
“You want it? Go ahead.”
David didn’t move. He still sat there transfixed by the beauty in front of him.
“I forgot, we’re supposed to be on the bed.”
He grabbed David’s hand and pulled him up off the chair and led him to the bed.
Neil and Jerry had been on the road for nearly two hours when Neil asked Jerry to pull over to the side of the interstate. “I have something to say and I didn’t want you driving when I say it.”
There was a long pause – a long uncomfortable pause – so long that dire thoughts began to race through Jerry’s head.
They were oblivious to everything but themselves and the moment. They weren’t even cognizant of the red and blue lights in their rear window. It was the tap on the window that got their attention. Jerry rolled down the window as the officer shined his light inside and searched for any imminent danger.
“Is everything all right?” he asked.
“Oh officer, nothing could be better than this moment. After three months of waiting, my honey has told me he loves me.”
“Have you been drinking?”
“Only from the springs of Cupid.”
Not understanding the allusion, he had Jerry step out of the car. “What were you drinking?”
“Nothing officer. I was speaking metaphorically. You want me to take a breathalyzer test, or do the road sobriety test?”
“No, I don’t smell alcohol on you, and your pants are up. Just do me a favor. Don’t park on the side of an interstate. You could cause or be in an accident.”
“Thanks, officer, but I think we can wait until we get home.”
“Well, be careful. I heard on my scanner that there’s a lot of heavy fog about thirty miles from here.”
Jerry reseated himself and fastened his seat belt preparing to reenter traffic when Neil started laughing hysterically. “That certainly killed the moment, but we’re going to talk about this for the rest of our lives. I tell you I love you and all at once there are red lights flashing. What the hell is going to happen when we’re in bed together?”
“I know all the disco lights in my brain will be going off.”
